GF54.50-P-2007RR Fuel Consumption, Function
- up to model year 08

Fuel consumption display function:
1 Text: "SINCE START: XXXXX km (miles)" or "SINCE RESET: XXXXX km (miles)"
A1p13 Left multifunction display
A1p15 Right multifunction display

The trip computer provides displays of the average fuel consumption rate:
^ "SINCE START" (short-distance memory) and
^ "SINCE RESET" (long-distance memory)

Depending on the unit setting (kilometers/miles) and the national variant coding of the instrument cluster (A1) the fuel consumption is displayed in:
^ liters per 100 kilometers (ECE),
^ miles per gallon (USA) or
^ kilometers per liter (Japan).

Fuel consumption "SINCE START" (short distance memory) function
^ Activate the "SINCE START" display using the system selection button (S110s3) and the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) on the multifunction steering wheel.
^ The display shows the data calculated since the last reset (RESET) of the short-distance memory.
^ The distance traveled "SINCE START" appears in the left- side multifunction display panel (A1p13).
^ Additional information also appears in the right-side multifunction display panel (A1p15):
- the average travel speed
- the elapsed time since starting
- the average fuel consumption

Fuel consumption "SINCE RESET" (long-distance memory), function
^ Activate the "SINCE RESET" display using the system selection button (S110s3) and the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) on the multifunction steering wheel. The display is based on the data registered and calculated since the last reset (RESET) of the long-distance memory.
^ The travel distance "SINCE RESET" appears in the left-side multifunction display panel (A1p13).
^ Additional information also appears in the right-side multifunction display panel (A1p15):
- the average travel speed
- the elapsed time since the reset
- the average fuel consumption

The trip computer calculates the average fuel consumption figures from the mileage traveled and the fuel consumption signal.

The fuel consumption signal uses information on the amount of fuel injected within a specific period.

The instrument cluster (A1) receives this data as follows:
^ The fuel consumption signal is generated by the ME control unit (N3/10) and sent as a message on the engine compartment CAN.
^ The mileage traveled is calculated from the four wheel speeds. The signals come from the SBC control unit (A7/3n1) via the control unit for ESP, PML and BAS (N47-5) and the engine compartment CAN.

After resetting there is not sufficient data material for correct calculation of the consumption.
As a transitional solution for this period, the display shows a calculated figure based on the individual vehicle's fuel consumption; this display varies according to the unit setting (miles/kilometers) and the national version code entered in the instrument cluster (A1). This value can differ from the effective instantaneous fuel economy.
The display limit lies at a maximum 40 l/100 km. Displays using miles per gallon or kilometers per liter revert to zero.

It is completely normal for the "since start" display (short-distance memory) and "since reset" display (long-distance memory) to show different values since the two displays are based on different sets of data. The "since start" display (short-distance memory) reacts much more sensitively to the current driving situation than the "since reset" display (long-distance memory).
