High-Beams Actuation, Function
High-Beams Actuation, Function
Operational sequence
1 Basic prerequisite:
- The electronic key in the starter switch of the EIS control module (N73) is turned to at least "2" (c. 15 on).
- The exterior lamp switch (31) is set to headlamp position or "AUTO".
- the parking lamp and driving lamp in the headlamps,
- the bulbs in the taillamps and
- the license plate lamps are actuated.
2 The combination switch lever (S4) is moved to the high beams position.
3 The jacket tube module (N80) senses the switch position of the combination switch and transmits the "headlamp ON" signal to the
- left SAM control module (N10/10),
- right SAM control module (N10/11), or
- the instrument cluster (A1) via the passenger compartment CAN bus.
4 The driver and right SAM control module actuate the left and right headlamps for the high beams (E1e1 and E2e1). By simultaneously actuating the magnetic coil of the left and right high beams (E1/1 and E2/1) the covers covering the bottom section of the light beams when set to low beams are pivoted away downward. Now the entire light beams is available for the high beams.
5 The instrument cluster actuates the blue indicator lamp for the high beam (A1e3) visually indicating that the high beams are switched on.
NOTE: The instrument cluster (A1) triggers an acoustic warning signal, as for the low beams lights, when the high beams is switched on, the electronic key has been removed and the driver's door is open.
Function sequence for actuating headlamp flasher switch
- The function sequence when actuating the headlamp flasher switch is the same as when actuating the high beams in relation to the signal flow. The only difference is the actuation for the switching operation. The only difference is the actuation for the switching operation. To actuate the headlamp flasher it is necessary to pull the lever on the combination switch (S4) opposite to the switching direction (LH) and hold it in this position..
- The headlamp flasher - and therefore the headlamp - remains active for as long as the lever is held in the headlamp flasher position.
