The front passenger airbag protects the front passenger against injuries in the event of a frontal impact. In the event of a head-on collision, the front passenger is cushioned and braked by the airbag which fills the area between the instrument panel and the passenger's body within approx. 35 ms.

In a severe impact the front passenger airbag is triggered, depending on the seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48).
