Separating Timing Chain







NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. Connect new timing chain (5) to old timing chain (4) using assembly link, consisting of chain joint (6), plate (7) and locking element (8).
2. Pull out locating pins.
3. Slowly rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine.
4. Pull the end of the old timing chain (4) which becomes free evenly out of the chain housing as the new timing chain (5) is drawn in.
- Ensure that the timing chain does not jump across as it is tamed.





5. 5 Detach old timing chain (4).
6. Connect the ends of the new timing chain (5) with riveted link (9) and center plate (10).
7. Take off holding device.





8. At special tool, place thrust piece with identification F1 into the riveting tool and screw on with screw (28) (Fig. A).





9. Place moving thrust piece with identification 2 into the riveting tool (Fig. B).




10. Insert outer plate (11) (thickness 1.2 mm) into the thrust pace (Fig, C).





11. Fit on riveting tool so that the spacer webs (arrows) are positioned on the rollers-of the riveted link (Fig. D).
12. Turn in spindle (06) until a firm resistance is felt.
- When turning the spindle (06), ensure that the pins of the riveted link are guided into the holes of the outer plate (11).
13. Take off riveting tool.





14. Turn over thrust piece with identification to the riveting profile (arrow), (Fig. E).





15. Position riveting tool exactly over middle of pin (arrow), (Fig. F)
16. Tighten spindle (06).
- Tightening torque at spindle: 30 - 35 Nm (reference value).
17. Rivet dins of the riveted link individually.





18. Inspect riveting (arrows) and re-rivet if necessary (Fig. G).
