Function

The gas generator for the side airbag located in the left side airbag squib (R12/9)/right side airbag squib (R12/10) is triggered by an electric pulse from the ETR control module with airbag (N2/2).

The squib consists of a solid propellant which produces a defined volume of gas under high pressure within a short time when triggered.

The gas flows through a filter into the airbag. The flap in the inner door paneling tears open and the airbag inflates between the passenger and door.
