Component Identification:
Telephone operation function
The telephone system can be operated as follows:
^ directly at the radio (A2)
^ with the telephone handset (A34)
^ with the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ via the multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1)
^ via voice control system
After a request e.g. from the handset (A34) the transmitter/receiver unit D2B (A35/13) transmits and receives telephone/radio signals using the telephone antenna (A2/22). In portable CTEL mode the signals are transmitted via the E-net compensator (A28/3) to the telephone interface (A34/4).
The task of the compensator is to adjust by amplification losses which occur due to the higher transmission frequency of the E-net.
All control and wanted signals (e.g. audio signals from activated hands-free system) are transferred via the digital data bus (D2B).
For communication with the D2B participants the portable CTEL (A34/6) requires an interface to the D2B, the telephone interface (A34/4). The battery of the portable CTEL (A34/6) is charged via the telephone interface (A34/4).
The battery is charged automatically as soon as the telephone interface (A34/4) is active, irrespective of whether the portable CTEL (A34/6) is switched on or off.
The radio (A2) has the following telephone functions:
^ Automatic disabling of telephone card when the Personal Identification Number is entered incorrectly three times.
^ Direct dialing of the telephone number via the numerical keypad, display of the name of the person called (if the number entered is known)
^ Quick-dial of the first ten memory spaces with only one button or selection of all further memory by input of the three-digit memory space number
^ Select from memory lists, sorted by:
-> Storage space numbers
-> Names (alphabetical)
-> List of the last ten numbers dialed
-> Display of subscriber's number for incoming call (if number is transmitted)
-> Display of the name (if number is known)
-> Read SMS [short message service]
-> Telephone book editing
-> Notebook conference call, note number
VCS Linguatronic (voice control system)
The voice control system control unit (A35/11) is connected to the radio (A2) and the telephone transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/13) via the Digital Data Bus (D2B). The voice control system is used for telephone operation as well as for some audio operating function (e.g. station search function, track change function for CD). The audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call. The phone call can be listened to at increased volume via the vehicle speakers.
Hands-free mode
During a phone call it must be possible for the user to hold the conversation via the hands-free system.
For this the handsfree system microphone (B25) is located on the overhead control panel control unit (N70). From there the microphone signals are passed on direct to the telephone transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/13) digitized and if necessary transmitted via the D2B to the sound amplifier (A2/13)There the signals are processed again and via the vehicle speakers of the sound system.
Telephone variants
The Audio 30 APS system offers a choice of the following variants for telephone operation:
^ Portable CTEL preinstallation complete on the upper center console, code (852) (with telephone interface (A34/4) and E-net compensator (A28/3))
^ MB portable CTEL, code (854) (with telephone interface (A34/4) and E-net compensator (A28/3) and portable CTEL (A34/6))
^ MB standard portable CTEL (853) (with telephone transmitter/ receiver, D2B (A35/13) and telephone handset (A34))
^ TELE AID [Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand] code (855) (with telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17) and telephone handset (A34))
The telephone interface (A34/4) realizes the physical connection of the cellular phone to the D2B system as well as the protocol conversion in accordance with the D2B specification.
The telephone interface (A34/4) has its own housing.
