Component Identification:
The telephone system can be operated as follows:
^ directly at the radio (A2)
^ with the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in conjunction with the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ via voice control system
Function
Following the request from the portable CTEL (A34/6) the telephone interface (A34/4) sends and receives the telephone two way radio signals with the telephone antenna (A2/22). The signal are transmitted via the E-net compensator (A28/3) to the telephone interface (A34/4).
The task of the E-net compensator (A28/3) is to compensate by amplification for the losses which occur due to the higher transmission frequency of the E-network.
All control and wanted signals (e.g. audio signals from activated hands-free system) are transferred via the digital data bus (D2B).
For communication with the D2B participants the portable CTEL (A34/6) D2B needs an interface with the D2B, namely the telephone interface (A34/4).
The battery of the portable CTEL (A34/6) is charged via the telephone interface (A34/4). The battery is charged automatically as soon as the telephone interface (A34/4) is active, irrespective of whether the portable CTEL (A34/6) is switched on or off.
The radio (A2) has the following telephone functions:
^ Automatic blocking of the telephone card after entering the Personal Identification Number (PIN) incorrectly 3 times
^ Direct dialing of the phone number via the digital keyboard
^ Display of name of person called (if the name is stored under the associated number)
^ The first 10 storage spaces can be quick-dialed with just one button; all other storage spaces can be dialed by entering the 3-digit storage space number
^ Selection from memory lists, sorted by:
-> Storage space numbers
-> Names (alphabetic)
-> List of 10 number last dialed
^ Displays of numbers and names:
-> Display of phone number for an incoming call (if the number is transmitted)
-> Display of name (if the name is stored under the associated number)
^ SMS reading
^ Telephone book processing
^ Note book toggling, note number
VCS Linguatronic (voice control system)
The voice control system control module (A35/11) is connected with the radio (A2) and the E-call control module (A35/8) via the Digital Data Bus (D2B). The voice control system is used for telephone operation as well as for some audio operating functions (e.g. station search function, track change function for CD). The audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call. The phone call can be listened to at increased volume via the vehicle speakers.
Hands-free mode
During a phone call it must be possible for the user to hold the conversation via the hands-free system.
For this the hands-free system microphone (B25) is located in the base of the inside rearview mirror unit (A67). From there the microphone signals are passed on direct to the telephone interface (A34/4), to the E-call control module (A35/8) and if necessary to the voice control system control module (A35/11). There the signals are conditioned again and output via the vehicle speakers of the sound system.
