GF82.61-P-3011QMJ Route Calculation, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version

The route is calculated and constantly updated by the integrated navigation processor after entering the destination on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). It can only be calculated within the digitized map area. The calculated route is a precondition for destination-oriented navigation. The route is calculated as soon as the user has entered the destination. The navigation processor calculates the route using the digital versatile disk (DVD) map data, the input destination, and the current position of the vehicle. For the calculation it takes into account roads and attributes read from the DVD map, such as one-way streets, bans on turning, road classes etc. (where available Here, it is possible for the user to indicate how the route is to be calculated.

The following possibilities are available for calculating the route:
^ Recommended route
^ Shortest route
^ Toll roads preferred
^ Avoid toll roads
^ Dynamic route

A comparison table of all routes is also created so that user can compare distances and costs.

Stop-offs
The user can select up to 3 stop-offs when selecting the desired route. The navigation system lists suitable places to stop (gas stations, motels, rest stops, etc.).

If the user selects the "Dynamic route", a traffic data recorder integrated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) is used to store the received traffic messages. These messages are then automatically taken into consideration when the route is calculated. The fastest route is then calculated. Notification that the route has been recalculated taking traffic messages into consideration, is provided. The navigation processor in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) then creates a list of the streets and junctions to be driven following route calculation. This list of routes is drawn on for destination-oriented navigation. The list can also be displayed in the "Traffic information" menu.

Route updating
If the driver deviates from the calculated route, the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) calculates a new route list. The current position and the direction of travel are taken into consideration. The new route is optimized accordingly. The message "New Route" appears on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) and "NEW RTE" appears on the instrument cluster (A1).
