B4 Fuel level sensor

The fuel level sensor(s) is located in the fuel tank.

Design
The fuel level sensor consists of:
- Lever
- Float
- 2 potentiometers (sliding contacts)

Function
Via the float, the position os the lever (with the sliding contacts) is modified according to the fuel level. Thus the resistance of the potentiometers changes and thereby influences the output voltage, which is a measurement for the fuel level.

The fuel tank is "full" at a resistance value of about 0 Ohm and "empty" at about 100 Ohms.

Model 171
The fuel tank is equipped with a fuel level sensor (B4). The voltage signal is transmitted to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2), which correspondingly processes the signal and transmits it via the CAN data bus to the instrument cluster (A1).

Model 203, 209
Each fuel tank chamber is equipped with a fuel level sensor. Both the voltage signals N10/2are transmitted separately to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module, which processes the signals accordingly and transmits them to the instrument cluster over the CAN databus.

Model 215, 220
The fuel tank is equipped with a fuel level sensor (B4). The voltage signal is transmitted to the rear fuse and relay module (K40/5), which forwards the voltage signal on to the instrument cluster.
