Remove/Install Fuel Pump










Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.


1 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE:
- Turn key in electronic ignition switch EIS into position "0". Key cannot be withdrawn.
- Vehicle filled with code (889) Keyless-G Switch off engine, remove Keyless Go cards from the vehicle and keep outside the range of the transmitter.
- Installation: Read out fault memory after connecting, adjust time display on combination instrument, code radio, normalize power window and activate steering angle sensor.
- Vehicles with stationary heater: adjust time display on stationary heater.

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion if ignition takes place, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling fuel vapors or swallowing fuel, as well as risk of injury to skin and eyes exposed to fuel.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
- Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.


2 Pump fuel out of the right-hand chamber of the fuel tank

NOTE:
- Suction off approx. 20 liters if fuel tank full:
- Draining and filling fuel tank

3 Remove rear seat cushion

NOTE: With through-loading facility code (287a) it is sufficient to place the rear seat cushion vertically

4 Fold back insulating mat
5 Disconnect electrical connectors
6 Use claw-type wrench to unscrew ring nut

- Ring nut to fuel tank = 85 Nm
- Claw-type wrench: See Special Tools below.

7 Disconnect return line (4) from pump pot

NOTE: Press clutch and pull out return line (4).

8 Remove level line of suction jet pump from pump pot

NOTE: Level line serves as a balance for the fuel level of both halves of the tank.

9 Slacken feed lines (3) from fuel pump

NOTE: Remove plastic clamp complete.

CAUTION:
- Installation: Pay attention to the installation position of the plastic clamp. The longer tabs of the plastic clamp must point to the top (in direction of fuel feed line).
- If installation position is incorrect (3), the feed line can slacken and fuel can flow out of the tank.


10 Remove swirl pot (1) with fuel pump (M3)and fuel level sensor, right half of tank (B4/2)

NOTE: Do not exchange fuel pump (M3) individually, only in connection with fuel level sensor, right half of tank (B4/2).

11 Install in the reverse order
