GF82.85-P-2012T Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
With the aid of the navigation processor that is integrated in the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56), the location of the vehicle, the direction, and the distance to the destination (based on destination entry) are determined. Then the required measures for reaching the destination are started (navigation).
After the navigation system is activated even by opening the driver door (in the background), it is operational via the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56) immediately after initialization. In the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56), a navigation processor with MP3 CD-ROM drive is integrated for digital map data.
After the "NAV" button is pressed, the message "Please insert navigation CD" appears in the navigation CD screen
If an incorrect or illegible CD, e.g., audio CD is inserted, the same message appears (in this menu).
Destination entry
Entry of the destination can be accomplished with menu guidance using the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56) and is processed by the navigation processor. The radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56) offers the following navigation options in the navigation mode:
^ Destination memory
^ Destination entry
^ Special destinations (e.g. hospital)
^ Last destination input
^ Entry of intermediate destinations
^ Dynamic route calculation
^ Address input
^ Destination with map
^ Travel guide
^ Destination memory with individual destinations
Predictive text input
When entering destination data, the next possible letters are displayed and it is then possible to adopt the relevant letter in the destination entry.
Dynamic supplementation
This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.
The following submenus are displayed in the "Special destinations" menu:
^ Location surroundings
^ Surroundings of current destination
^ Surroundings of any town center point
^ Surroundings of special destinations
The search radius is approx. 20 km, however, special categories, i.e. airports, have a larger search radius (approx. 80 km).
Location finding
The radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56) continually calculates the location of the vehicle using the following procedure:
^ GPS location finding
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Map-supported map matching (map matching)
The navigation processor calculates the most probable position by continuously comparing the results returned by these 3 methods.
Route calculation
The route is calculated by the navigation processor in accordance with the specified destination, or automatically, after a deviation from the suggested route has taken place.
With the dynamic navigation system, the route calculation is influenced by incorporating traffic information via an external provider by means of radio (TMC). The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor.
Destination finding system
After the navigation processor has calculated the route, the destination finding system starts up. 2 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:
^ Display of stretch of road symbols (no map display)
^ Symbol presentation (system of navigation symbols)
The presentation is always controlled by the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56).
The system supports the following functions:
^ Navigation system of symbols
^ Current position
^ Route display
The destination-finding system is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
If the CD drive is not used for navigation, it is also possible to play audio CDs or video DVDs.
