AR35.20-P-0302T Remove/Install Wheel Bearing
Removing/Installing Wheel Bearing
Shown On Model 211 With Steel Suspension:
DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of injury from trapping or crushing body parts, risk of injury to skin and eyes due to brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system
- Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
CAUTION:
- When working on the rear axle, ensure that the surfaces of all aluminum parts are kept free of scratches, cracks and indentations. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected
- See Special information on AIRmatic
- See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS
2 Empty/fill rear air springs using STAR DIAGNOSIS
- With Airmatic, code (489a)
CAUTION: Installation: Always fill the rear air springs in the KO position otherwise they will be irreparably damaged!
3 Remove twelve-point collared nut (12) from rear axle shaft (37)
NOTE: Installation: Replace twelve-point nut, tighten and secure.
4 Remove rear wheel
5 Remove brake pads
CAUTION: Hang the brake caliper up with a hook to relieve the strain on the brake hose.
6 Remove brake disc (61)
7 Remove brake shoes (103) of parking brake
8 Pull brake cable (86) out of wheel carrier (7)
9 Detach connecting rod (6k) of torsion bar from wheel carrier (7)
10 Raise wheel carrier (7) using transmission jack and transmission platform until axle shaft (37) is roughly horizontal
CAUTION: Installation: Tighten bolted connections of torque strut, camber strut, thrust arm and track rod.
11 Detach torque strut (3) from wheel carrier (7)
CAUTION: Installation: Secure torque strut loosely.
12 Detach camber strut (2) from wheel carrier (7)
CAUTION: Installation: Secure camber strut loosely
13 Detach tie rod (4) from wheel carrier (7)
CAUTION: Installation: Secure track rod loosely.
14 Detach thrust arm (5) from wheel carrier (7)
CAUTION: Installation: Secure thrust arm loosely.
15 Lower transmission jack
NOTE: Installation: Raise wheel carrier (7) with transmission jack and transmission platform until axle shaft (37) is roughly horizontal.
16 Fold wheel carrier (7) back and pull rear axle shaft (37) out of wheel bearing (10)
CAUTION: Hook the rear axle shaft up to avoid damaging the rubber sleeve of the rear axle shaft.
- If the rear axle shaft is difficult to remove, Press rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange
17 Undo bolts (10a) and pull wheel bearing (10) out of wheel carrier (7)
18 Install in the reverse order
19 Adjusting parking brake
20 Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
