CAN Data bus (Controller Area Network)
The ME control unit features a short-circuit protection as well as a reversed polarity protection in the operating voltage section.
In certain cases voltage is supplied through several pins connected in parallel by means of bridges to relief the electrical connectors.
Ground connection
Several ground connections for the ME-SFI [ME] control unit, the ignition output stage and the motor electronics are mounted close to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit on the body.
Voltage supply of ME-SFI control unit
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) is supplied with voltage directly from the battery on-board electrical system battery "unfused".
Engine control voltage supply
If the transmitted signal "circuit 15 secured ON" from the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) via the CAN data bus from:
Models 211, 219 Driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
Model 215, 220 Right front SAM control unit (N10/7N10/)
Model 230 right SAM control unit (N10/11)
Model 463 Front signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1)
read in, if the engine main relay:
Models 211, 219 Terminal 87 relay, engine (N10/1kI)
Model 215, 220 Motor electronics/chassis relay (K40/7kK)
Model 230 Engine electronics and chassis relay (K40/4kK)
Model 463 Circuit 87 relay, engine (N10/1kR)
is actuated with a ground signal and closes the power contact.
Once the engine main relay has closed the power contact, the voltage is relayed by it from "circuit 30" (to the appropriate fuses) as "circuit 87" to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit and the engine control is switched on.
Cutting out the engine control
If the corresponding ME-SFI [ME] control unit receives the signal "circuit 15 fused off" from the EIS control unit, delayed-off running of the processor (approx. 30 to 150 seconds) is started.
Once the delayed-off running is ended, the motor main relay is switched off and the engine control is thus isolated from the on-board electrical system.
System tests are conducted by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit during the computer run-on and the fault memory is updated.
