Engine 113 EVO from AMG is equipped with the ME gasoline injection and ignition system 2.8 which has already been introduced on the series production vehicles with engine 113.
The software for the engine control unit (ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)) was, however, adjusted for engine 113 EVO from AMG.

The abbreviated designation ME 2.8 means:
M = Motor
E = Electronics
2.8 = Version 2.8

The following functions are combined in the ME-SFI control unit:
^ Injection system
^ Ignition system
^ Emission control system
^ Electronic accelerator (EA)
^ Cruise control function
^ Drive authorization system
^ Diagnostic fault code memory, diagnostic system

The ME control unit essentially analyzes the following information:
- Air mass
- Intake air pressure
- Intake air temperature
- Coolant temperature
- Engine speed and crankshaft position
- Camshaft position
- Throttle valve position
- Accelerator pedal position
- O2 sensor signals
- Knock detection
- Oil level, oil temperature and oil quality

Other input signals which the ME control unit receives via the extremely fast databus called CAN are e.g.:
- Vehicle speed
- Drive position recognition
- Cruise control recognition
- Brake recognition
- Start enable (drive authorization system)
- Crash signal

The individual control unit are networked with each other over the CAN databus (Controller Area Network) according to the equipment and model installed. The following control units are responsible for the engine control:
^ Driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (model 171)
^ Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (models 203, 209)
^ Rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) (models 171, 203, 209)
^ Left front SAM control unit (N10/6) (models 215, 220)
^ Right front SAM control unit (N10/7) (models 215, 220)
^ Rear SAM control unit (N10/8) (models 215, 220)
^ ESP and BAS control unit (N47- 5) (models 171, 203, 209)
^ ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit (N47-5) (models 215, 220)
^ ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)
^ Instrument cluster (A1)
^ ETC control unit (N15/3)
^ Electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5)
^ AAC control and operating unit (N22)
^ EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
^ Steering column module (N80)
^ Central gateway control unit (N93)

The entire test program for engine 113 BVO from AMG is contained in the STAR DIAGNOSIS system.
