Parking Brake System: Adjustments
Adjusting Parking Brake
DANGER
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
CAUTION: See notes on repairs to brake system
1 Check version of the parking brake pedal assembly
2 Operate parking brake pedal and check the pedal travel of the parking brake pedal
NOTE:
- If the pedal travel is outside the specified value, adjust parking brake.
- Control force at parking brake pedal
- Notches which the parking brake pedal must be operated
3 Raise the vehicle with the lifting platform until the wheels are clear of the ground
4 Preloading automatic cable slack adjuster
5 Remove rear wheels.
6 Using a suitable tool turn the adjusting wheel (105) until the brake shoes contact the brake drum and that it is no longer possible to rotate the rear wheel
NOTE:
Adjustment direction for applying the brake shoes:
- Right side: Rotate the adjusting wheel (105) from the bottom upwards.
- Left side: Rotate the adjusting wheel (105) from the top downwards.
7 Turn back adjusting wheel (105) until the rear wheel can be rotated completely freely
NOTE: When loosening the adjusting wheels (105), ensure that both sides are turned back by the same number of teeth (8 to 9 teeth).
8 Relieve load on automatic slack adjuster.
9 Operate parking brake pedal several times
- Control force at parking brake pedal Notches which the parking brake pedal must be operated
10 Check that the rear wheels can turn freely
11 Fit rear wheels
