With the authorization the service provider authorizes the actuation of an EMERGENCY CALL.The authorization is vehicle and not person- related.

Authorization is required in the following cases:
- When the system is initially started up.
- When the vehicle owner changes
- After expiration of 3 months since the last authorization

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
- of the vehicle identification number (VIN).
- if the system functions properly (position specification).

The EMERGENCY CALL does not function when the system is not authorized.

Authorization when initially started up:
Authorization is accomplished via a telephone call to the E-CALL center

Authorization sequence
The Mercedes-Benz Service-Station informs the DBTJ of the deadline for start-up
There the transmission for the authorization message for the corresponding vehicle is prepared.
Circuit 15R on vehicle should be switched on for authorization.The actual authorization is accomplished automatically and has a duration of approx. 2 minutes.

In order to ensure a malfunction procedure the following should be avoided during an authorization:
- switch off an emergency alarm actuation or
- circuit 15R with starter switch (S2) or
- set EMERGENCY CALL to diagnostic mode (via hand-held tester).

Deauthorization
When the vehicle owner changes the EMERGENCY CALL system must be deauthorized before handing over the vehicle to avoid misuse. Also inform DBTJ for authorization

For authorization or deauthorization a malfunction-free telephone reception is required, if necessary park vehicle outdoors.
