An EMERGENCY CALL can be actuated automatically or manually:
Manually,
- with the aid of the emergency call system pushbutton switch (EMERGENCY CALL, S93/3) if the vehicle is not involved itself in an accident or the driver requires help.
For diagnosis purposes: Manually with the hand-held tester (not from beginning of introduction of EMERGENCY CALL.).
Automatically,
- via the emergency tensioning retractor control module with airbag (AB) (N2/2), in the event of airbag actuation or a severe rear-end collision.
- if the roll-over sensor recognizes a roll-over in the E-CALL control module (A35/8) .
In models 203, 215, 220 the emergency tensioning retractor control module with airbag (AB) (N2/2) is replaced with the restraint system control module (N2/7)
After a call between the person involved in the accident and the rescue center (police, fire department, etc.)is completed, the voice connection from the E-CALL center to the person involved in the accident is maintained. It can only be terminated by the person involved in the accident himself
Emergency call priority
The information in which manner the emergency call was actuated is entered into the emergency call telegram generated by the E-CALL control module (A35/8) The types of actuation have various priorities:
Highest priority:
1. Automatic emergency call
Lowest priority:
2. Manual emergency call with S93/3
If an emergency call is already active when an emergency is actuated this active call is terminated. The emergency call with the lower priority is not started.
If an emergency call with lower priority is already active when triggering, this call is interrupted and the emergency call with the higher priority is started.
