Fuel Filter: Service and Repair




Replace Fuel Filter

Remove/Install and replacing

DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of explosion from fuel igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel.
- Fire, sparks, open flames or smoking forbidden.
- Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
- Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.


1 Release pressure in fuel tank

NOTE: For this step open fuel filler flap (1) and filler cap (2) and reseal.

2 Remove cover (3) of fuse pump assembly

NOTE: Installation: Install cover (3) only after check for leaks.

3 Pinch-off fuel hoses (4)

NOTE: Installation: Inspect condition of fuel hoses (4) and hose clamps, replace if necessary. Only use hose clamps mentioned in the electronic power control.

- Clamping pliers: See Commercially Available Tools below.

4 Disconnect fuel hoses (4) at fuel filter (5)

NOTE: Collect fuel which flows out.

5 Slacken bolt (6) and pull out fuel filter (5) in direction of arrow from retaining clamp (7).

CAUTION: The fuel filter (5) is wrapped for protection against galvanic corrosion with a plastic foil. Do not damage plastic foil when inserting fuel filter (5) in the retaining clamp (7). Position fuel filter (5) in the retaining clamp (7) in such a way, that the plastic foil protrudes on both sides of the retaining clamp.

Inspecting
6 Check rubber mount (8, 4 Stuck).
- Check rubber mount (8) for wear, replace if required.
- Liquid lubricant (Naphtolen H)

7 Install in the reverse order

DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
- Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.


8 Start engine and inspect fuel system for leaks
9 Install cover (3) of fuse pump assembly
