GF82.85-P-3001QM Voice Output, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
The navigation of the navigation system (based on DVD data basis) is basically supported by voice outputs:
^ Direction information
^ Name of the street into which the driver is to turn
The voice data is originally stored on the navigation-digital versatile disk (DVD) as individual word segments. This data record is automatically sent from the DVD to the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and stored there. The latter has various languages:
^ German
^ British English
^ American English
^ French
^ Spanish
^ Italian
^ Dutch
^ Swedish
^ Danish
^ Portuguese
Several driving recommendations in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.
If the vehicle is equipped with code (810) Sound-System, the voice signals are transmitted digitally over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound amplifier (A2/13) by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). There they are amplified and then output via the vehicle loudspeakers.
The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3n1) connects these words segments to form complete instructions or information and generates corresponding low frequency (LF) signals. These LF signals generated in this manner are transferred internally to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) as required where they are amplified and output via the vehicle loudspeakers. These can be selected using the "System settings" menu. The data for the voice output are then transmitted from the DVD to the navigation processor and stored there.
Loading a language takes a few seconds and it changes both the voice output as well as the menu texts on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Voice loading takes place again automatically after a power disconnection.
While a language is being loaded from the navigation DVD, severe vibrations (e.g. bad road conditions) should be avoided. Otherwise the voice output might be broken up. In such cases it is necessary to reload the language.
Voice output superimposed with another audio source
When voice output is active simultaneously with an audio source (e.g. CD, radio), the two signal sources are superimposed.
Volume of voice output
The voice output volume can be adjusted during voice output . A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume .
Example for voice output
The volume is turned down during voice output. If the set volume difference to the audio signal is not maintained, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) reduces the audio signal level until the set level is achieved again. After voice output has taken place, the volume of the audio signal is increased to match that of the voice output. The volume of the voice output cannot be reduced to below a certain minimum level.
Voice output muting
The navigation voice output can be muted during voice output by pressing the mute button (button marked with struck-out speaker). The mute feature applies only for the current voice output. If an audio source (e.g. CD, radio) is playing at the same time as the navigation voice output, the 1st press of the mute button mutes the navigation voice output and the 2nd press mutes all audio output.
