The portable CTEL (A34/6) receives a call signal over the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15) and over the E-net compensator (A28/3) from the telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 209.4, model 209.3 up to 31.5.06) or from the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (model 209.3 as of 1.6.06). The caller is shown in the display of the portable CTEL (A34/6) and this information is sent simultaneously to the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1). The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) control unit (N123/1) transfers the signals to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
Each installed audio device (e.g. radio (A2) (standard equipment)) receives the ringing tone, the call signal is then output over the following audio speakers:
^ Left door front speaker (H4/1)
^ Right door front speaker (H4/2)
^ Left door rear speaker (H4/5)
^ Right door rear speaker (H4/6)
^ Left front door mirror triangle speaker (H4/23)
^ Right front door mirror triangle speaker (H4/24)
At the same time, the audio device reduces the volume of additional audio signals by 15 dB. When a call is accepted, these audio signals are muted.
The caller ID is shown on the display of the portable CTEL (A34/6), on the display of the audio device and in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1).
The user can accept a telephone call in one of the following ways:
^ Pressing the "Accept phone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
^ Via the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) at the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ Pressing the "Accept phone call" button in the control panel of the audio device.
With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made using the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) solely via the hands-free system.
