GF82.85-P-2007QKU Telephone Mode, Function

Component Identification:

The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit allows portable CTELs (N123/1) from different manufacturers (e.g. Siemens, Motorola, Nokia) to be operated in the vehicle. It is only necessary to install the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15) required for the respective portable CTEL on the Universal Portable CTEL Interface contact plate.

Telephone operation
The telephone system can be operated as follows:
^ Directly on the portable CTEL
^ Via the buttons on the radio (A2)
^ Using the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in combination with the multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Over the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]))

Information can be displayed via the
^ Portable CTEL display
^ Multifunction display of instrument cluster (A1)

The volume can be adjusted separately for the telephone mode.

Following a request over the radio (A2), the cell phone signals are sent and received over the telephone antenna (A2/22 or A2/49a1). The signals are transmitted over the E-net compensator (A28/3) to the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1). The E-net compensator (A28/3) compensates for losses caused by the higher transmission frequency of the E-net by means of amplification.

The telephone is illustrated by a symbol, if it is operational, in the display of the radio (A2). Similarly, the reception field strength is displayed after insertion of the portable CTEL into the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15). All control signals and useful signals (e.g. sound signals with hands- free system activated) are transmitted via the media-oriented system transport (MOST).

The rechargeable battery of the portable CTEL is charged over the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1). The rechargeable battery is charged automatically as soon as the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1) is activated, irrespective of whether the portable CTEL is switched on or off.

The radio (A2) has the following telephone functions:
^ Direct dialing of the telephone number via the numerical keypad, display of the name of the person called (if the number entered is known)
^ Speed-dialing of the first 10 memory locations by pressing one key only or dialing all other memory locations by entering the 3-digit memory location number
^ Display of caller's number (if number is transmitted)
^ Display of name (where telephone number is known)
^ Read text messages
^ Telephone book processing
^ Edit note book
^ Select from memory list using
- memory location numbers
- Names (alphabetic)
- List of last 10 numbers dialed

Hands-free mode
During a phone call, the user can hold the conversation using the hands-free system. For this purpose, the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) is located in the mirror housing of the inside rearview mirror unit. From there the microphone signals are forwarded directly to the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1), digitized, and sent over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the radio (A2). The microphone and antenna signals are processed once again in the radio (A2). The processed antenna signals are then output via the vehicle speakers. The hands-free mode can be activated via the portable CTEL, via the MFL or on the radio (A2). During a hands- free telephone call the audio source is automatically muted.

Hands-free operation with the vehicle's telephone system is not possible after removing the portable CTEL from the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15).

Data safety, SMS memory
If the battery voltage drops below 9.5 V, the characters that are present in the memory of the radio (A2) are retained. However, it is possible for up to 4 characters to be lost. When switched off in a normal manner, no characters are lost.

With the radio (A2) it is only possible to read text messages (SMS).
