Head Unit Not Turning ON or Intermittently Locking Up / Message "TeleAid Visit Workshop" Displayed In the Instrument Cluster

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the DVD COMAND head unit locking up or does not turn ON where a circuit 30 reset is needed to remedy or the message "TeleAid Visit Workshop" is displayed in the instrument cluster, the head unit software must be updated to the correct version according to the head units shown.

Note:
The Service Update Disc must be used only for the head units listed in this bulletin.

Note:
If the software level of the DVD COMAND base unit is lower than 12/04, the base unit and the navigation module cannot be updated due to software incompatibility. Check the software level prior to performing the update; refer to process (Confirm Software Level of Head Unit).

Note:
The Base Unit must be updated first, then the Navigation Module (if necessary). After the software update process is complete, you must reset the head unit per step 12 of section A.

Warning!
Turn all electrical consumers OFF and connect a battery charger for power supply.

Starting/stopping the engine during the update process will permanently damage the head unit internal components.

A. Base Unit Software Update

1. Turn ignition ON, power up the head unit and press EJECT button to open the front panel display.

2. Insert the base unit service update disc for the corresponding head unit in the lower slot entitled "CD AUDIO" (Figure 1) and press EJECT button again on the bottom of the screen to close the front panel display.

3. The screen will display "Main Data Download" this indicates that the software update process has started (Figure 2).

Note:
If the download process does not automatically start within 2 minutes press the POWER Button to shut down the head unit and press POWER again to start up. The download (software update) will start.

4. DO NOT Touch anything on the head unit; let the process run on its own.

5. If the screen shows "CD ROM not corresponding", eject the disc and start the process again.

6. The download process runs through two stages: Main and Sub Data Downloads. Total download time for both stages is roughly 11-15 minutes.

7. The Sub Data download stage starts automatically after the Main has been completed (Figure 3).

8. After a successful update process, the head unit will display the message: "Main CPU/Sub CPU Data Download Finish".

9. The head unit will now shutdown and power up again automatically.

10. Press the EJECT button to open the front panel (door) and retrieve the update disc from the "CD AUDIO" slot.

11. Press the EJECT hard key on the bottom of the screen display to close the front panel.

12. Perform a reset by: pressing the "SERV" hard key, then the "System" soft key and then the "Reset" soft key.

13. Head unit will power down and power back up on its own.

B. Navigation Module Software Update (if software level is earlier than 31/04)

1. Press the EJECT hard key on the bottom of the screen to open the front panel display.

2. Press the EJECT button next to the upper disc slot entitled "DVD NAVIGATION" to retrieve the Navigation Database DVD.

3. Insert the navigation module service update disc for the corresponding head unit into the slot (Figure 4) and press the EJECT hard key on the bottom of the screen again to close the front panel display.

4. The screen may display a message "DVD error", but the download process will start automatically and will display a progress bar (Figure 5).

5. After a successful update process, the screen may display one of the following messages: "Cannot read Navigation DVD" or "Please check DVD", this is normal.

6. Press the EJECT hard key on the bottom of the screen display and then the EJECT button next to the slot entitled "DVD NAVIGATION" to retrieve the service update disc.

7. When the update process is complete, re-insert the Navigation Database DVD into the "DVD NAVIGATION" slot and press the EJECT hard key on the bottom of the screen display to close the front panel.

Confirm Software Level of Head Unit

Confirm navigation module software level only if the Navigation's software was updated. Select the correct vehicle model -> Control units -> Information and communication -> Audio, video, navigation and telematics -> COMAND with integral audio gateway or Navi-Navigation -> Control unit version and verify the software level
