Soft Top Does Not Open and Instrument Cluster Message Reads: "Close Remaining Luggage Compartment Partition"

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles with an instrument cluster message reading "Close Remaining Luggage Compartment Partition," it may be caused by the left wiring harness/Bowden cable that controls the linkage flap on the soft top compartment lid, not sliding into the guide tube. By kinking and lying down between the remaining luggage compartment cover and the side wall paneling of the luggage compartment, the micro switch is not actuated (Figure 1).

Replace the Bowden cable for operating the linkage flaps on the soft top compartment lid by referencing WIS document AR68.30-P-1650QA. This includes the guide hose and rubber guide. Please reference the notes below when replacing the cables, hose and guide.

Notes:
^ Positioning of the Bowden cable cable/electric harness: The white printed markings on the Bowden cable must be visible in the window of the retainer. See the red circle marked on Figure 2.

^ Positioning of the upper cable ties: Cable tie 1 (Figure 2) fastens the guide hose to star section of the Bowden cable. Cable tie 2 (Figure 2) fastens the guide hose to the retainer. The ratchets of the cable tie must point towards the back of the vehicle. (Figure 2).

^ Positioning of lower cable ties: A guide/rubber element is attached at the bottom of the Bowden cable. Cable tie 3 (Figure 3) is attached below the molded marking and attaches the hose to the cable. Cable tie 4 (Figure 3) attaches the eyelet of the guide/rubber element above the tactile marking to the Bowden cable.

Important Note:
In order to create space for the free movement of the Bowden cable, the hydraulic lines are passed behind the soft top compartment lid cylinder and are fastened to the cylinder with a cable tie. The feed line for the switch is also routed behind the soft top compartment lid cylinder.
