Guidelines for Soft Top and Rear Window Complaints
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles regarding the below referenced conditions of the soft top cover or the rear window, evaluate the complaint as follows.
1. Creases in the side area of the soft top cover (Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4) represent normal signs of use from opening and closing the roof and the influence of dirt. Do not replace the soft top cover. These signs of use can be reduced by regular care using plenty of water and a soft brush.
2. Transverse seam of the soft top detaches (Figure 5) requires replacing the soft top if the seem loosens.
3. The edge of the soft top cover is not under the rear window molding (Figure 6) and the soft top cover around the rear window is loose. The weld seam on the guide for the tension cable (Figure 7) for the rear window has detached. Please perform repair as outlined in P-B-77.31/68 (or later version).
4. The weld seam on the water pocket (Figure 8) has detached. Please perform repair as outlined in S-B-77.31/54 (or later version).
5. The gap between the soft top cover and the rear window (Figure 9) has increased. A specified gap progression is required to insure smooth operation for the opening and closing sequence. Do not attempt to correct or replace the soft top cover.
6. Surface damage to the soft top cover (Figure 10) is due to outside influences. This can only be corrected by replacing the soft top cover. This is not covered by warranty.
