Trunk Lid Cannot Be Opened and Fault Message In Cluster

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a message in the instrument cluster "Soft top operating" and the trunk lid cannot be opened, this may be caused by the left limit switch S84/11 ("Soft top lock locked"). The following fault codes may also be current or stored.

^ B1953 - The "locked" limit switch of the soft top lock does not switch

^ B1954 - The status of the "locked" limit switch of the soft top lock is implausible

^ B1955 - The "locked" limit switch of the soft top lock sticks in the switched state

To resolve, replace the bottom section of the left soft top lock (Figure 1). Refer to WIS document AR77.33-P-1007QA (adjustment of bottom section of left soft top lock).

Note:
When the soft top lock is closed, the operating lever on the bottom section of the soft top lock must release the micro switch S84/11 with a distance of 1.0 millimeter (Figure 1). If this is not the case, signal loss and malfunctions of the soft top may occur when the vehicle is subjected to torsional loads.
