Inspect Cooling System For Leaks
Shown On Model 203.035:
Remove/Install
DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.
- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 degrees C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
1 Open cap of expansion reservoir (2)
NOTE:
- 2-stage cap: Turn cap half a turn in counterclockwise direction, release pressure, and then unscrew cap.
- Function: 2-stage expansion reservoir cap
2 Set heating switches to maximum heating capacity
3 Install in the reverse order
Inspect
4 Inspect coolant level
NOTE: If antifreeze protection of coolant is insufficient, either antifreeze must be added, or the coolant must be replaced.
5 Pit on test cap (1) at expansion reservoir (2)
6 Connect tester (3)
7 Pressurize cooling system
NOTE:
- Pressure relief test not higher than 1.4 bar.
- If new cylinder head gasket fitted, first of all warm up engine to operating temperature before testing cooling system for leaks.
8 Inspect condition and connection of hose clamps, retighten or replace, if necessary
9 Inspect cooling and heating hoses as well as their connection points for proper condition and loss of coolant; replace coolant hoses, if necessary.
