Seat Belt Extender Does Not Extend

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the seat belt extender does not exend, perform the following procedure before replacing parts.

1. Read DTCs for seat belt exenders in control unit N52, power soft top.

2. If DTCs other than 1405 and/or 1505 appear, correct identified faults and erase DTCs.

3. If only DTCs 1405 and/or 1505 are present, erase all DTCs.

4. Erase all DTCs a second time.

5. If DTCs are still present, remove fuses F34f32 and F34f33 from interior fuse box for at least 15 seconds and reinstall fuses.

6. Check seat belt extender function. If okay, return vehicle to customer.

7. If seat belt extender still does not function correctly, check seat belt extender mechanically and check electrical wiring. Correct as required.

8. Erase all DTCs.

9. Erase all DTCs a second time.

10. If DTCs are still present, remove fuses F34f32 and F34f33 from interior fuse box for at least 15 seconds and reinstall fuses.

11. Check seat belt extender function. If okay, return vehicle to customer.

12. Using DAS version 07/04 or newer, code the UVS control unit via the DAS menu "Control unit adaptations"; to do this proceed as follows: Control units

- Body

- UVS - roll bar/soft top control unit

- Control unit adaptation

- Seat belt extender: block function automatic

After a few seconds the block counter is permanently deactivated and faults 1405 and 1505 should no longer occur

As of May 1, 2004 production, a modified UVS control unit with block counter deactivated is installed in production. The part number has been changed to A209 820 45 26.
