Transmission Inoperable After Learning a New Spare Key
If you encounter an issue in the above model vehicles of the automatic transmission becoming inoperable after initializing a new spare key in the electronic ignition switch (EIS), this may be due to the transmission control unit still performing the initialization process for the new key. To resolve, reinsert the new key back into the EIS, switch to key position two and have key remain in EIS for approximately one hour. Do not replace any parts for this condition!
Warning!
Ensure a battery charger is also connected.
Note:
When a key is initialized in the EIS and circuit 15 is switched on, the key is also initialized in the engine and transmission control unit. These control units take different lengths of time to compute the drive authorization data. In most instances, the engine control unit finishes its calculations in approximately 15 minutes. When the engine control unit finishes its calculations, the "vehicle computing" display in the instrument cluster disappears, even though the calculation in the transmission control unit may not be complete. The computation of the drive authorization data in the transmission control unit can take up to 45 minutes.
