GF83.40-P-2181-01QB Control And Operating Unit Comfort Automatic Air Conditioning, Task
- 209.3/4 as of 1.6.04
- with CODE (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning

Component Identification:

Task
The comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) controls and regulates all air conditioning functions for the vehicle interior.
^ harmonizing the temperatures preselected and actually present and controlling the air outlet temperature at the air vents.
^ Automatic switchover from fresh air to air recirculation mode
^ Electrical control of refrigerant compressor
^ Operating the engine/AC electric suction fan with integrated control

The following additional functions are also regulated by the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) and the required information is forwarded to the processing control units via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B):
^ Heated rear window
^ Stationary heater (on vehicles with code (228) stationary heater)

The comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) performs the following system actuations:

^ Via the CAN-B: refrigerant compressor, coolant circulation pump, engine and AC electric suction fan with integrated control
^ Via the A/C bus: air recirculation unit and 10 actuator motors for air distribution

The following sensor signals are received by the convenience AAC pushbutton control unit (N22/7):
^ sensor installed: in-car temperature sensor (N22/7b1)
^ direct: evaporator temperature sensor
^ via the CAN-B:
- outside temperature display temperature sensor, refrigerant pressure and temperature sensor (via the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module)
- battery voltage, coolant temperature sensor, engine speed (via the EIS [EZS] control unit)
- ground speed (via the instrument cluster)
- in-car temperature sensor as of 1.6.05 (via the overhead control panel control unit)
^ via the A/C bus:
- C-AAC [K-KLA] multifunction sensor
- C-AAC sun sensor (4 in total)

The comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) reads in the position of the windows and doors as well as the position of the tilting/sliding roof (with code (414) Power glass titling/sliding roof) in order to achieve an improved control quality when they are open.

Temperature button warm left (1) and temperature button warm right (2)
The temperature button warm left (1) and temperature button warm right (2) are used to increase the desired temperature in the vehicle interior.
Pressing the temperature button warm left (1) and temperature button warm right (2) on the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) sets the desired interior temperature separately for left and right.

Temperature button cold left (3) and temperature button cold right (4)
The temperature button cold left (3) and temperature button cold right (4) are used to decrease the desired temperature in the vehicle interior.
The desired interior temperature is adjusted separately for the left and right by pressing the temperature button cold left (3) and the temperature button cold right (4).

Defroster button (5)
Pressing the defroster button (5) initiates the defrost function. The defrost function is used to prevent the windshield and the front side windows from fogging up. To accomplish this, the defroster vents are fully opened and the center air outlets as well as the footwell air outlets are fully closed.

Increase blower output button (6)
The increase blower output button (6) is used to increase the blower output. The increase blower output button (6) can be used to increase the blower output in 6 stages.

Decrease blower output button (7)
The decrease blower output button (7) is used to decrease the blower output. The decrease blower output button (7) can be used to decrease the blower output in 6 stages.

AC button/REST button (8)
By pressing the AC button/REST button (8), the refrigerant compressor is switched off manually and thus cooling mode is switched off.
The residual engine heat utilization can be used to heat or only ventilate the vehicle for approx. another 30 min. when the engine is switched off. The function is only available when the ignition is switched off. The residual engine heat utilization system is switched off automatically in the event of undervoltage.

Display logic of the function LED in the AC button/REST button (8)
On vehicles up to 31.5.05, the function LED is off when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.
On vehicles as of 1.6.05, the function LED is on when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.

Auto button (9)
When the auto button (9) is pressed, the blower output and the air distribution are controlled automatically. When it is pressed again, the automatic function is switched off and the manual function is restored.

Activated charcoal filter button (10)
Pressing the activated charcoal filter button (10) on the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) switches to operation with the activated charcoal filter; this conducts the fresh air, after flowing through the dust filter, through the activated charcoal filter. As a result, the pollutant content in the fresh air is reduced and the odor emission decreased. When the emission levels in the outside air are high, the system automatically switches over to air recirculation mode. The LED in the activated charcoal filter button (10) is illuminated during operation.

Display (11)
The temperature appears on the display (11) in either °C or °F, depending on the instrument cluster setting.

Left air distribution thumb wheel (12) and right air distribution thumb wheel (13)
The left air distribution thumb wheel (12) and right air distribution thumb wheel (13) can be used to manually set the air distribution for the left and the right sides in the vehicle interior.

OFF button (14)
When the OFF button (14) is pressed, the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) and its function requirements are completely switched off.

Heated rear window switch (N22/7s1)
When the heated rear window switch (N22/7s1) is pressed, a switch-on request is transmitted to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module via CAN-B, which switches the rear window heater on. Simultaneously, the LED in the heated rear window switch (N22/7s1) is activated.

Air recirculation switch (N22/7s2)
Operating the air recirculation switch (N22/7s2) for <1.5 s actuates the fresh air and air recirculation flap. The fresh air flap closes and the air recirculation flap opens, allowing the air in the vehicle interior to circulate, and unpleasant odors and pollutants cannot enter the vehicle interior from outside. The prerequisite is that the windows and the tilting/sliding roof are closed.
When the air recirculation switch (N22/7s2) is pressed for more than 1.5 s, the air recirculation function is activated and all open windows and the tilting/sliding roof are closed. When the air recirculation switch (N22/7s2) is operated again, the windows and the tilting/sliding roof return to their original position.
