GF91.60-P-2006TX Head-on Collision, Function

Head-on collision
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) evaluates the data from the following components to determine the severity of the impact:
^ Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
^ Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)

Depending on the severity of the impact and the situation in the vehicle, the following squibs for the corresponding restraint devices are actuated:
^ Driver emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/1) (up to 31.5.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or up to 30.6.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))
^ Front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/2) (up to 31.5.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or up to 30.6.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))
^ Passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
^ Passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
^ Left rear ETR squib (R12/6)
^ right rear ETR squib (R12/7)
^ Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
^ Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
^ Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (with (United States Of America) as of 1.7.06)
^ Front passenger belt force limiter (R12/26) (up to 31.5.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or up to 30.6.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))
^ Driver belt force limiter (R12/27) (up to 31.5.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or up to 30.6.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))
^ Driver buckle emergency tensioning retractor squib (R46) (as of 1.6.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or as of 1.7.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))
^ Front passenger buckle emergency tensioning retractor squib (R46/1) (as of 1.6.06 (not (United States Of America) or (Japan)) or as of 1.7.06 (only (United States Of America) or (Japan)))

The following information is evaluated for recording the situation in the vehicle interior:

Left front seat belt buckle status
If the driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) detects that a latch belt has not been inserted into the seat belt buckle, then the driver airbag unit with advanced ignition timing is triggered instead of the emergency tensioning retractor unit or the buckle emergency tensioning retractor unit. If not occupied, neither the emergency tensioning retractor unit nor the buckle emergency tensioning retractor unit or the front passenger airbag unit are triggered.

Right front seat belt buckle status
If the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) detects that a latch belt has not been inserted into the seat belt buckle, then the front passenger airbag unit with advanced ignition timing is triggered instead of the emergency tensioning retractor unit or the buckle emergency tensioning retractor unit.

Front passenger seat occupation status
The restraint systems control unit uses the current assignment to decide about suppression or 1 or 2-stage actuation of the front passenger airbag unit.

There is no seat belt buckle inquiry for the left and right rear seats; as a result, the rear ETR squibs are always triggered.

With (United States Of America), in the event of a collision and when the corresponding triggering threshold is exceeded, an additional signal is transmitted to the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) by the restraint systems control unit and an automatic emergency call is transmitted.
