The exterior lights comprise the following functions:
^ Standing lamp actuation
^ Parking lamp actuation
^ Low beam actuation
^ High-beams actuation
^ Daytime running lamps actuation
^ Automatic driving lights on
^ Headlamp range adjustment (HRA)
^ Dynamic curve illumination
^ Cornering illumination (with code (619) Cornering illumination)
^ Lights on warning
^ Front fog lamp actuation
^ Rear fog lamp actuation
^ Stop lamp actuation
^ Turn signal lamp actuation
^ Hazard warning flasher actuation
^ Backup lamp actuation
^ Automatic headlamp on
^ Substitute lamp actuation
^ Emergency lamp actuation

The master control unit for the exterior lights is the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
It relays the signals for the individual functions over Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) to the relevant control units.

Actuations
The driver SAM control unit actuates the following components:
^ Left front lamp unit (E1)
^ Left front fog lamp (E5/1)
^ Left front side-marker lamp (United States of America) (E6/1)
^ Right front side-marker lamp (United States of America) (E6/2)

The passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11) actuates the following components:
^ Right front lamp unit (E2)
^ Right fog lamp (E5/2)

The left front door control unit (N69/1) actuates the left outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/5).

The right front door control unit (N69/2) actuates the right outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/6).

The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the following components:
^ Left taillamp (E3)
^ Right taillamp (E4)
^ Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
^ Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
^ center high-mounted stop lamp (E21)

The rear SAM control unit is the master control unit for all turn signal functions.
