Function
The headlamp range adjustment (HRA) is installed as a passive safety feature to prevent oncoming traffic from being dazzled. The HRA keeps the incline angle of the driving lamps within the legally specified limits irrespective of the load and position of the HRA [LWR] selector wheel (S1s8).

The positions 0, 1, 2, and 3 are possible using the HRA [LWR] selector wheel.
The individual selector wheel settings are to be adjusted to the vehicle load and are to be found in the owner's manual. Actuation ensues over the HRA [LWR] selector wheel and the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) to the left headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1) in the left front lamp unit (E1) and the right headlamp range adjustment motor (E2m1) in the right front lamp unit (E2).
