Component Identification:

Door inside handle illumination function

Function requirements
^ Circuit 15R ON
^ Night signal from rain/light sensor
^ Standing lamps ON (circuit 58d on)

If the functional prerequisites are met, the door inside handle illumination is switched on by the relevant door control unit (undimmed).

The undimmed illumination is switched off under the following conditions:
^ circuit 58d off and at a speed of more than 10 km/h or
^ after an after-run period of 5 min after circuit 58d off or
^ vehicle is locked using the transmitter key (A8/1) with circuit 58d off and circuit 15C off.

Ambiance illumination function

Function requirements
^ Circuit 58d on
^ Ambiance illumination in instrument cluster activated

The ambiance illumination includes actuation of:
^ the light ring in the overhead control panel,
^ the light ring in the rear interior lamp and
^ the ambient lamp in the inside rearview mirror unit which are switched on if the function requirements are met.

Search and function illumination
The brightness of all illuminated controls is automatically adapted to the brightness conditions in the interior by a phototransistor that is integrated in the instrument cluster. The brightness can be adjusted to individual requirements using the instrument illumination rheostat and reset button (A1r1) on the instrument cluster.
The signal (circuit 58d) for actuating dimming of the switch and controls illumination is sent from the instrument cluster. In order to generate this signal, the instrument cluster evaluates the status of the exterior lamp switch and the status of the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

The search and controls illumination in the overhead control panel switches itself on when the front doors are opened or closed (no circuit 58d from instrument cluster) and remains on for 30 seconds. When the doors are opened or closed again, the run-on time restarts. If the vehicle is locked, the search and controls illumination switches itself off immediately.
