GF82.61-P-3011TU Route Calculation, Function
- with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA
With code (527) navigation module for COMAND and code (528) HIGH Class USA the external navigation module is designated navigation processor (N41/1).
After the destination input on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) the route is calculated and constantly updated by the navigation processor (N41/1). This can only be calculated within the digitalized map areas. The calculated route is the prerequisite of the destination guidance system.
Route calculation
The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the route to be driven with the aid of DVD card data and the instantaneous position. It takes into account for the calculation the roads and attributes read from the DVD map such as one-way streets, bans on turns and road categories where available.
For the route calculation, the following stretches can be blocked from the route calculation:
^ Avoid highway
^ Avoid ferries/vehicle transport
^ Avoid toll roads
^ Avoid tunnels
The navigation differentiates between:
^ main and intermediate destinations of a trip (driven to directly)
^ Via destinations
Via destinations
The input of a via destination always refers to the road network which exists at the current data level 3 (which corresponds to 5 km to 500 km). All the roads existing in this network can be selected as via destinations. The Via destinations are not driven to directly, i.e. the function is restricted to the highway network. The selection is always made via the map. In addition, controlled by the operating unit, it is also possible to enter a town or other index destination and then divert it to the map. With the via destination, the route is calculated to the main destination which follows next, taking into consideration the via point. The navigation processor (N41/1) creates a list of the streets and junctions to be driven to after the route has been calculated. This route list is used for destination guidance. It may also be displayed by calling up the "Information" menu.
Route updating
If the driver deviates from the calculated route, a new route list is calculated by the navigation processor (N41/1). When doing so, the current position and the direction of travel are taken into consideration. The new route is optimized accordingly.
Trips outside the digitized map area
If the vehicle leaves the digitized DVD map area (e.g. driving into a multilevel car park), then no route can be calculated or updated. OFF ROAD appears on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). When leaving the map boundaries (e.g. abroad) OFF MAP is displayed.
Destinations which lie outside of the digitalized map area cannot be taken into consideration on calculation of the route.
