General
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) is the central control for the entertainment and communication systems integrated in the vehicle.

The following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents, are included in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:
^ Volume/tone settings
^ Audio mode
^ TV mode, with code (863) TV combination tuner (analog/ digital) digital/analog
^ Video mode
^ Telephone operation
^ Navigation mode, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
^ Voice control, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
^ Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), with code (537) Digital radio
^ Satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR), with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
^ Media interface, with code (518) Media interface

The displays and menus for the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are generated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The following applications are displayed on the instrument cluster (A1) parallel to the display on the screen of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:
- Audio/video
- Telephone
- Navigation, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit acts as a gateway. It routes signals from the interior CAN to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) components and thus forms the communications interface.

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST:
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3), with code (537) Digital radio and with code (833) Great Britain version
- TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1), with code (863) TV tuner digital/analog
- Satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit (N87/5), with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), with code (810) Sound system
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) and media interface electrical connector (X18/69), with code (518) Media interface
