GF82.85-P-2012RM Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)
After activating the navigation system by pressing the "NAV" button in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the location of the vehicle and the direction and the distance to the destination (after entering the destination) are determined. The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the data needed to reach the destination (navigation).
The note "Please insert navigation DVD" appears in the navigation display, if no navigation DVD is inserted.
This note is issued to ensure that the user inserts the correct DVD.
Destination entry
The destination is entered using menus on the control unit and is processed by the navigation processor (N41/1).
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers the following alternatives for destination entry:
^ Address input
^ Destination memory
^ Destination with map Special destinations (e.g. railway station, airport etc.)
^ Travel guide
^ Last destinations
Dynamic supplementation
The dynamic supplementation is realized when the destination is input manually. During the entry of the destination, the letters that are still missing are supplemented using the predictive text input (speller) with the aid of an existing list and a black background is added. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.
Position finding
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continually calculates the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following methods:
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Global positioning system (GPS) position finding
^ Map-supported map matching
The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the most likely position by constantly comparing the location results of these 3 methods.
Route calculation
The route is calculated in the navigation processor (N41/1) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route. With the dynamic navigation system the route calculation is automatically influenced because traffic information is included, either free of charge via the radio data system (RDS) and the traffic message channel (TMC) or via an external provider is used over the telephone. The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor (N41/1).
Route guidance
Navigation starts once the navigation processor (N41/1) has carried out the route calculation 3 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:
^ with map
^ with map and symbol display before turn-off points
^ with symbol display (route control symbols)
It is possible to change arbitrarily between 3 types of presentation. The navigation is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
