General information on voice control
The individual functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The VCS is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.

Operating instructions
Voice control is activated and deactivated using the right VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on the steering column tube module (N80).

Voice control function sequence
The control signal of the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN

Voice input takes place via the associated hands-free system microphone, which is connected by a direct line to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The spoken word is converted to an electrical signal by the hands-free system microphone and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. In vehicles with code (810) Sound system the voice output takes place via the following components:
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Amplifier for sound system (N40/3)
- Direct lines
- Speaker system

The following speakers are actuated:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)

In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output takes place via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, using direct lines to the relevant speakers.
