GF46.15-P-2000R Steering column adjustment, function
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

Function requirements
^ No overvoltage/undervoltage
^ Terminal 15c, 15R, 15 ON
^ Driver door open or
^ Front passenger door open
^ Normalization of steering column

Manual adjustment of steering column:
The steering column adjustment up and down, fore and aft switch (S59/1s1) is read in by the steering column tube module (N80) and transmitted cyclically on the CAN interior.

The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) then actuates the steering column adjustment motor group (M20) corresponding to the adjustment requirements.

Automatic adjustment using the memory function
Additional requirement:

^ valid memory block number

The 3 memories which are located in the seat adjustment switch group (S91/2) can be called up via:
^ Memory button 1 switch (S91/2s6)
^ Memory button 2 switch (S91/2s7)
^ Memory button 3 switch (S91/2s8)

The positions on the driver's side are stored with key codes.
For this the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) sends the storage block number assigned to the key to all the control units involved.

Through the combination of information from the left door control unit (N69/1) and electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) the corresponding key-dependent position is stored or approached.

For this purpose via the door control unit a CAN message is sent to the driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10), this then actuates the steering column adjustment motor group (M20) corresponding to the adjustment requirement.

Adjustments which can be called up using the memory function
The following adjustments can be set on the driver's side using the memory feature:
^ Seat
^ Head restraints
^ Steering column
^ Exterior rearview mirrors
^ Multicontour backrest (SA)

The following adjustment via memory is adjustable for the passenger-side:
^ Seat adjustment
^ Head restraints
^ Multicontour backrest (SA)
