General
A distinction is made between the following 2 versions for the mobile phone system:
- Basic telephony
- Comfort telephony
Both versions use Bluetooth technology for data transfer.
In order to be able to operate a Bluetooth-capable mobile phone authorized at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support Hands Free Profile (HFP) 1.0 and 1.5. More information is available under:
The mobile phone system consists of the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:
^ Switching on and off characteristics
^ Establishing call and terminating call
^ Accepting call and rejecting call
^ Short Message Service (SMS), with comfort telephony, with code (386) Mobile phone or with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/ Canada
^ Mercedes-Benz Contact, except code (830) China version, except code (494) USA version
^ Voice control, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
The system is described using the comfort telephony as an example. Differences from the basic telephony are marked by the symbol.
Address book
The address book contains the address entries stored in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). Additionally, the data from the telephone book of the mobile phone can be loaded into the address book of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The data from the mobile phone's phone book are then permanently available, even if the mobile phone is no longer inserted in the cradle.
Address entries can only be removed by deleting individual entries or by deleting the entire address book.
The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book. These data are then permanently available as address entries. The address-relevant applications for telephony can be started directly via the address book entries and provided with the data stored. The address book is activated via the telephony (Tel) base function and then via the address book menu item in the function bar.
The telephone book is an excerpt from the address book. The telephone book is activated via the telephony base function (Tel) and then via the name menu item.
In vehicles with basic telephony, it is possible to gain read access to the telephone book of the mobile phone, if the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth profile Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP). Otherwise, data from the telephone book of the mobile phone can only be loaded via "vCards" onto the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. Additionally, the user can enter or select a telephone number in the following ways:
- Telephone buttons on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Telephone number already selected from the call lists
- Telephone number previously edited from the address book of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
Address entries can contain the following:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (private, business, fixed line network, mobile or car)
- Geo position (private or business)
- Company name
For the voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, voice commands (voice tags) for 50 entries can be entered. The address entries stored in the address book in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the data loaded from the mobile phone are displayed.
Detailed information is given in the separate system description of the mobile phone system.
