AR15.40-P-5011R Test Charge Current of Generator
Check The Generator Charging Current
Removing, installing
1 Remove lower engine compartment panel
NOTE: Middle panel only.
Inspecting
2 Preconditions for generator testing
3 Check the generator regulation voltage
4 Connect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065) as shown in connection diagram
NOTE: The DC clip-on probe must be brought as close as possible to the generator, from underneath.
5 Connect the Volt-Ampere tester with load resistance (079) as shown in the connection diagram
DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off when engine is running. Risk of crushing and burns if hands are inserted into the engine when started or when running
- Secure the vehicle to prevent it from moving off.
- Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.
- Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
6 Start engine
7 Test the charging current at a higher engine speed (about 2500 1/min.), so that the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is loaded with the Volt-Ampere tester and load resistance (079)
NOTE: Vary the load resistance until maximum charging current (150 Ampere) is reached; in doing this, the regulator voltage should not drop below 12.7.
- If charging current is below specified value (150 Ampere):
- Test the generator diodes.
8 Switch off engine
9 Disconnect the multimeter (003) with the DC clip-on probe (065)
10 Disconnect the Volt-Ampere tester with load resistance (079)
11 Re-charge the battery
12 Replace the engine compartment panel
