GF46.15-P-0003R Electrically adjustable steering column (ESC) function
- up to model year 08

Electrically adjustable steering column (ESC)
The electrically adjustable steering column has two basic functions
^ Manual adjustment
^ Automatic adjustment (memory)

Manual steering column adjustment
The position of the steering column can be adjusted electrically using the steering column adjustment raise/lower, forward/back switch (S59/1s1).

The longitudinal and height adjustment can be regulated separately:
^ Longitudinal adjustment approx. s = 60 mm
^ Height adjustment approx. s = 38 mm

Steering column adjustment memory function
The memory function can be used to store different steering column positions.

If the driver presses the one of the switches in the left seat adjustment switch group (S91/2)
^ Switch for memory position 1 (S91/2s6) or
^ Switch for memory position 2 (S91/2s7) or
^ Switch for memory position 3 (S91/2s8) the steering column is adjusted automatically to the positions stored in the left door control module (N69/1)

Easy entry/exit
The easy entry/exit function makes it easier for the driver to get into and out of the car by raising the steering column.

The easy entry/exit function can be activated in the instrument cluster (A1).

Limp-home function:
If the Hall sensors in the longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor (M20m1) and/or the height adjustment up/down motor (M20m2) fail or if the normalization malfunctions, the limp-home function allows the driver to adjust the steering column manually to the driving position (airbag safety area).
