With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) via the hands-free system.
With the UPCI system it is possible to operate different portable CTELs (A34/6) such as Nokia, Siemens and Motorola in the vehicle. Only the respective UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) has to be replaced to do this.
The UPCI system consists of the following components:
- UPCI Portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15)
- Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1)
- Telephone antenna (A2/22)
- E-net compensator (A28/3)
- Portable CTEL (A34/6)
- Hands-free system microphone group (A67b1)
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) (for vehicles up to 31.5.06 without code (494) USA version)
The portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) of the vehicle via the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15).
The UPCI system supports the following functions:
- Wireless integration of Bluetooth terminals (for vehicles up to 31.5.06 without code (494) USA version).
- Set up telephone connections in handsfree mode.
- Display call number and caller ID.
- Telephone numbers stored in the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) are displayed on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
The UPCI system is activated:
- By the On/Off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
- By a wake-up pulse that is automatically triggered by an audio device via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
- On activation of circuit 15
The UPCI system is deactivated:
- By the On/Off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
- Automatically after the individually adjustable run-on time on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
The telephone calls can be accepted or terminated by doing the following:
- By pressing the "Accept call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
- Via the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) at the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- By pressing the "Accept call" button in the control panel of the audio device installed.
Voice is input via the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) and output via the speaker system. The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be in the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) to do this.
This displays a series of messages in the screens of the following components:
- Portable CTEL (A34/6)
- Multifunction display (A1p13) in instrument cluster (A1)
- Installed audio device
In order to ensure accurate voice input of the user via the hands- free system microphone group (A67b1), the volume of the activated audio device is first reduced for an incoming call and muted when the call is accepted.
The volume of the hands-free system can be individually adjusted by the user using the portable CTEL (A34/6) or via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) using the + and - button, setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
The UPCI system can also be operated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
- System select button (S110s3)
- Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
