Audio CDs are played using the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) or the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6). The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) features a magazine for 6 audio CDs. The magazine is centrally loaded via a slot, operation takes place via the control panel at the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).
The audio signals are processed and amplified via the audio gateway integrated in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) or the sound amplifier (A2/13) (with code (810) Sound system). The control signals of the control panel buttons and the audio data of the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) system. Operation of the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is initiated using the control panel in the "Audio CD" menu.
After inserting a magazine that contains at least one audio CD into the slot of the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions are available to the user:
- Selection of audio CD
- Select track
- "Search forwards" and "Search backwards"
- Display of the current playing time of the track or the audio CD
- Programming function
The following are part of the programming functions:
- Random function
All the titles of an audio CD are played according to the random principle. Once all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is automatically loaded and the random function continues. The random function is repeated until it is deactivated.
- Repeat function
Either one track or all tracks of an audio CD are repeated. It is also possible to repeat all tracks of all audio CDs in the magazine.
- Scan function
The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. At the end of the CD that is being played back, the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) automatically switches to the mode last set.
The following possibilities are available in the menu "Adjustments":
- Normal track function
- Repeat track
- Repeat audio CD
- Select a track sequence
Assigning a title to an audio CD
Each audio CD contains a fixed table of contents (TOC entry).
This makes it possible to automatically recognize a title after the user has assigned a title one time, even if the audio CD is inserted into another insertion slot. The table of contents (TOC entry) additionally contains information on the number of tracks on an audio CD and the audio CD's total playing time.
Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format
The designation "MP3" is short for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard which permits the compression of digital music signals to approx. 8 % of the original data size. This is accomplished nearly without audible differences compared to the original signal (audio CD). It is also possible to playback audio CDs in MP3 format in the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) in addition to conventional audio CDs . In doing so, a conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).
