MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 1.6.05
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
- up to Model Year 8
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM drive for loading navigation data and for playing audio CDs.
CD changer mode (with code (819) 6-disk CD changer)
The CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control signals and the audio data from the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) are transmitted by the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
Only audio CDs with the corresponding file format can be used as media.
On vehicles with code (810) sound system, the sound amplifier (A2/13) is responsible for final amplification of the audio signals. The amplified audio signals are emitted via the vehicle's loudspeaker system.
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) provides, in conjunction with the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions:
- "Scan" function
Either the tracks of one CD are played or the first track of each CD in the entire magazine is played for 8 seconds. After running through the CD completely, the "Scan" function is automatically terminated.
- "Random" function
All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.
- "Repeat" function
Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.
- Fast forward or reverse (music search)
The music played is audible during fast forward or reverse. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.
If the vehicle is equipped with the sound amplifier (A2/13), the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be coded accordingly with the aid of STAR DIAGNOSIS. Otherwise, faults occur with the reproduction of audio signals.
CD operation with the integrated DVD drive
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has an integrated DVD drive which can be used for navigation operation and for playing back audio CDs (audio CDs cannot be played in navigation mode).
CD title allocation, function
Each CD contains a permanently stored 'table of contents' (TOC record). As a result, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) clearly recognizes the particular CD on the basis of the table of contents, and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is subsequently inserted in another CD magazine). The table of contents (TOC record) additionally contains information regarding the number of tracks on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format
The designation "MP3" is an abbreviation for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard that permits digital music signals to be compressed to approx. 8% of the original data quantity. This takes place with almost no audible difference to the original signal (audio CD).
In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), it is possible to play conventional audio CDs and also audio CDs in the MP3 format. A conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).
