CD player mode
Audio CDs can be played using the radio (A2) or using the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) (with code (819) 6- disk CD changer). The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) has a changer magazine for 6 CDs. The changer magazine is inserted or removed centrally via an input slot. The system is operated via the entry keyboard at the radio (A2).
Only 12-cm CDs can be inserted into the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6).
The control signals from the radio (A2) as well as the audio data from the CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6) are transmitted by the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). The signals are processed and amplified by the radio (A2) or the sound amplifier (A2/13) (models 203.05/09/75 with code (810) Sound system).
CD player mode is selected at the radio (A2) in the "Audio CD" menu. After inserting the changer magazine having at least one audio CD into the insertion slot of the CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions are available to the user:
The following functions are possible:
- Selection of insertion slot of audio CD in changer magazine
- Selection of audio CD
- Select track
- "Search forwards" and "Search backwards"
- Current playback time of track or audio CD
- Programming function
At the end of the audio CD, the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) switches to the first track of the next available audio CD. In combination with the CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions are possible:
- Track skip
The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. On reaching the end of play of the audio CD, the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) automatically switches to the last mode selected.
- Random function
All tracks on an audio CD are played according to the random principle. Once all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is automatically loaded and the random function continues. The random function is repeated until it is deactivated.
- Repeat function
Either one track or all tracks on an audio CD are repeated.
The following possibilities are available in the menu "Adjustments":
- Normal track function
- Repeat track
- Repeat audio CD
- Select a track sequence
Assigning a title to an audio CD
Each audio CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC record). As a result, it is possible, after a one-off track allocation by the user, to identify these tracks automatically, even if the audio CD is inserted into a different insertion slot. The table of contents (TOC record) additionally contains information regarding the number of tracks on an audio CD and the CD's total playing time.
Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format
The designation "MP3" is an abbreviation for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard that permits digital music signals to be compressed to approx. 8% of the original data quantity. This takes place with almost no audible difference to the original signal (audio CD).
In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), it is possible to play conventional audio CDs and also audio CDs in the MP3 format. A conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).
