Function requirements:
- Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) activated
Alarm actuation via contact switch
If the
- Left front door contact switch (S17/3)
- Right front door contact switch (S17/4)
- Left rear door contact switch (S17/5) (model 203.0/2)
- Right door contact switch (S17/6) (model 203.0/2)
- Trunk lid rotary tumbler microswitch (S17/8) or
- Engine hood ATA switch (S62)
exits its non-actuated state for longer than 0.5 s, an alarm is triggered.
The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) initiates an acoustic and a visual alarm.
Alarm actuation with alarm signal horn with additional battery H3/1)
The alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1) is actuated cyclically by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2). If no reply is received from the alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1) within 1 s, an alarm is triggered. The output is only visual, since the alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1) cannot be actuated
If the alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1) detects loss of the supply power or the communication, it outputs an acoustic alarm automatically.
The alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1) automatically outputs an alarm, if the connection lines or the vehicle battery is disconnected when the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) is activated.
Alarm actuation by tow-away protection (TS) (as of 1.6.06 not United States of America and Japan)
The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) checks the input of the ATA inclination sensor (B33) several times per second. If the ATA inclination sensor (B33) detects a position change of the vehicle, an alarm is triggered.
The tow-away protection (TS) can trigger a maximum of three alarms in sequence. Then the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) must be reactivated for realizing this function.
Alarm actuation by interior protection (IRS) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
The alarm decision is accomplished by considering the duration and the speed of the motion in the interior compartment.
If the interior protection transmitter and receiver (A26/14) (model 203.0/2) or the left interior protection transmitter and receiver (A26/4) (model 203.7) detects a break-in into the vehicle, the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) outputs an acoustic and visual alarm.
On vehicles with code (345) Rain sensor as of 31.1.03 in combination with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof or with code (413) Panoramic sliding roof, the tilting/sliding roof or the panoramic sliding roof of the interior protection (IRS) is deactivated during rain closing.
The interior protection (IRS) can trigger a maximum of three alarms in sequence. Then the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) must be reactivated for realizing this function.
Alarm actuation by glass breakage (model 203.2) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
The left rear window glass breakage sensor (B39), right rear window glass breakage sensor (B39/1) and rear window glass breakage sensor (B39/4) are connected to the interior protection sensor transmitter and receiver (A26/14) and, in the event of glass breakage (line interruption), transmit a signal to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) which then starts an acoustic and visual alarm.
Alarm actuation by glass breakage (model 203.7) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
The rear window glass breakage sensor (B39/4) is connected to the left interior protection transmitter and receiver (A26/4) and, in the event of glass breakage (line discontinuity) relays a signal to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) which then initiates an acoustic and visual signal.
Alarm actuation by trailer monitor (with code (550) Trailer hitch)
The lines are monitored for discontinuity by applying a control voltage from the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) to the trailer loads If line discontinuity is recognized, the status "Trailer not recognized" is transmitted to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) via CAN B (CAN B). It then starts an acoustic and a visual alarm.
Alarm memory as of 24.4.04
Alarm triggered (max. 15) and additional information, such as the window and tilting/sliding roof position, can be read out in the SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and in the central gateway control module (up to 27.7.04) or in the EIS control module (as of 28.7.04) with STAR DIAGNOSIS.
Visual alarm
The alarm output is actuated by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2). The type of alarm and alarm duration are stored in the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).
Alarm duration
Vehicles with United States of America version: approx. 150 s
Other countries: approx. 300 s
Actuation of exterior lights (not United States of America)
The visual alarm is accomplished when the
- left turn signal lamp and right turn signal lamp are actuated by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module,
- left turn signal lamp and right turn signal lamp are actuated by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2),
- left outside mirror turn signal lamp is actuated by the left door control unit,
- the right outside mirror turn signal lamp is actuated by the right door control unit
for the duration of a visual alarm.
Actuation of exterior lights (United States of America)
The visual alarm is accomplished when the
- the left taillamp and parking lamp and the right taillamp and parking lamp are actuated by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2),
- left front fog lamp and right front fog lamp are actuated by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module
for the duration of a visual alarm.
Interior illumination actuation
The interior illumination is switched on by the overhead control panel control module (N70), without dimming, for the duration of the visual alarm.
Acoustic alarm
The acoustic alarm is output by the alarm signal horn with additional battery (H3/1).
Alarm duration
All countries: approx. 30 s
Alarm interruption
The alarm can be interrupted by actuating the "Lock" or "Unlock" buttons on the transmitter key.
If interrupted with the "Lock" button the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) still remains activated.
