General
The information which is shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) is subdivided into different systems. These systems are:
- Base function
- AUDIO
- Navigation
- Distronic (adaptive cruise control) (DTR)
- Tire pressure loss warning (RDW)
- Warning messages
- Settings
- Trip computer (TRIP)
- CTEL
Each of these systems is again subdivided into system displays. The first system display which is shown if a system is selected is named in the following basic system display. The information sought can now be viewed in the system displays or the adjustments made.
Only system displays of systems with which the vehicle is equipped are displayed. If a system is not available, then when the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed it is not displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
If the instrument cluster (A1) is activated, the "trip and total mileage" basic system display of the "base function" system always appears in the multifunction display (A1p13).
Button for operating the multifunction display (A1p13)
The multifunction display (A1p13) is operated using the following buttons of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
- System select button (S110s3)
- Buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
- Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
The instrument illumination rheostat (A1r1) and the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) of the instrument cluster (A1) are also used for operating purposes.
Individual vehicle adjustments
The following individual adjustments can be made:
- Change various vehicle adjustments
- Reproduce the manufacturer default settings
- Call up the stored warning messages
- Acknowledge the warning messages
- Adjust the brightness of the instrument illumination

Calling up display of different systems
The function requirement in order to have the various systems displayed is "circuit 15R ON".
When the system selection button (S110s3) on the multi-function steering wheel (MFL) is pressed, the multifunction display (A1p13) is switched to the basic display of the next or previous system. The duration of actuation is of no importance.
When the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed with the "next system" button, the display switches to the basic system display of the next respective system.
When the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed with the "previous system" button, the display switches back to the basic system display of the previous respective system.
If all the systems have been run through by pressing the system selection button (S110s3), the basic system display of the "base function" system is reached again.
The systems are located as on an endless loop. i.e. when the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed again, the next system and its basic system display is displayed again. Consequently each system can be reached both with the "previous system" button of the system selection button (S110s3) and with the "next system " button of the system selection button (S110s3).
Function of the system select/voice control pushbutton (S110s3)
In addition to the basic system display most systems make available further system displays. The scroll forward/back button is used to continue switching into the next system display within a system (S110s1).
When the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) on the multi-function steering wheel (MFL) is pressed, the multifunction display (A1p13) is switched to the next or previous system display. The duration of actuation is of no importance.
By pressing the system selection button (S110s3) it is possible to switch over from any system display into the following or previous system and its basic system display.
Function of scroll forward/back button (S110s1) on the example of displaying remaining distance or remaining time

From any system display it is possible to switch over into another system by pressing the system selection button (S110s3).
The basic system display of the system then appears with the exception of the "trip computer" system. If a change is made from the previous system to the "trip computer" system, the system display which was last shown in the "trip computer" system is always called up.
Overview of subsystems of the "adjustments" system
Individual adjustments of subsystems of "adjustments" system Function requirement is "circuit 15R ON".
The driver can select the following different subsystems of the "settings" system in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) and change the settings within:
1. Instrument cluster:
- Display unit for speedometer in kilometers (km) or miles
- Language choice
- Display of status bar
The adjustment of the display unit of the temperature display between degrees Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F) is carried out according to the respective variant coding of the instrument cluster (A1) through the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) depending on the national version.
2. Time/date:
- Setting the time, hours
- Setting the time, minutes
- Setting the date, day
- Setting the date, month
- Setting the date, year
The adjustment of the time display mode (12 h, 24 h) is carried out automatically.
3. Illumination:
- "Manual" or "automatic" driving lamp switching
- Locator lighting "ON" or "OFF"
- Headlamp switch-off delay "ON" or "OFF"; the "ON" status corresponds to a time period of t = 15 s
- Interior light OFF delay time "ON" or "OFF"; the "ON" status corresponds to a time period of t = 10 s
4. Vehicle:
- Winter tire speed limit
- Automatic door locking
- Display of taxi/private
- Switching on taxi roof sign
5. Heater:
- Stationary heater time preselection
- Stationary heater time setting, hours
- Stationary heater, time setting, minutes
The automatic heater booster function is automatically activated on vehicles with diesel engines.
6. Comfort
- Easy entry feature; steering wheel adjustment only "ON" or "OFF"
- Key dependency, only one more transmitter key (A8/1)
- Mirror adjustment for parking assist
- Adjustment for folding the mirrors flat when the vehicle is locked up
Only subsystems with which the vehicle is equipped are displayed. If a subsystem is not available then when the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) or the + and - button for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) is pressed, it is not displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
All the individual adjustments of the subsystems of the "adjustments" system are also possible while driving, the following are excepted:
- Driving lights on
- Winter tire limitation
- Key dependency
Total resetting to manufacturer default setting
All the adjustments are reset to the manufacturer default setting by this process:
- Repeatedly press the system selection button (S110s3) until the "settings" system appears on the multifunction display (A1p13).
- Press the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) for at least t = 3 seconds.
- A confirmation request is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13).
- Press the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) again within t = 10 seconds and all the adjustments are reset to the manufacturer default setting.
If the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) is not pressed again within this t = 10 seconds, the display switches back again to the basic system display. The vehicle was then not reset to the manufacturer default settings.
The following adjustments cannot be reset to the manufacturer default setting while driving:
- Driving lights on
- Winter tire limitation
- Key dependency
If an attempt to do this is made nevertheless, a warning message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
If the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) is pressed for longer than 60 seconds the instrument cluster (A1) assumes that the button is jammed. The trip odometer reset button (A1s3) is then interpreted by the instrument cluster (A1) as not pressed.
