Front Wheel Hub Removal And Installation







DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

1 Raise vehicle.
2 Remove front wheel
3 Remove brake rotor
4 Pull off hub cap (9e)
5 Remove the outer tapered roller bearing (9m

NOTE:
- Loosen the Alien bolt (9i), unscrew the clamp nut (9d) and remove the outer tapered roller bearing (9m).
- Installation: Adjust wheel bearing end float

6 Pull off front wheel hub cover (9).

NOTE: If front wheel hub (9) is seized.

CAUTION: Use extreme care to avoid damaging the radial oil seal, as it houses the reluctor for the wheelspeed sensor.

NOTE:
Installation: Fill front wheel hub (9) with grease, coat radial oil seal with grease, and fill the area between the extruded edge seal and the tapered roller bearing. Slide front wheel hub (9) with inside tapered roller bearing and radial oil seal onto the steering knuckle (5a).

7 Inspect brake cover plate (35).
- Replace if necessary
8 Check kingpin (5a) for discoloration and wear on bearing seats or contact surface of radial seal ring

NOTE: Discoloration may be a result of overheating stemming from incorrectly adjusted bearing end float, if necessary, Replace steering knuckle

9 Check front wheel hub (9)
- Check threaded sockets and reluctor for damage.
10 Check tapered roller bearing, bearing races.
- To replace damaged bearings or bearing races refer to, Dismantle, assemble front wheel hub (9)
11 Install in the reverse order
12 Push down brake pedal several times
