GF82.61-P-2002QM Continuous Position Finding, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)
Function
Continuous position finding is understood to refer to calculation of the vehicle's position at any given time. It is active when the ignition is switched on (circuit 15R ON) and is performed by the navigation processor, which is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). During the switch-on phase (software is loaded), only the basic position finding is available. After switching the ignition off (circuit 15R off), all important positioning parameters are stored for the duration of the run-on time (approx. 30 min).
Following the final destination-oriented navigation execution (destination reached), the position map is displayed again. After 1 min run-on time, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) switches itself off completely.
The continuous position finding uses 3methods, which complement each other and thus which ensure an extremely accurate and reliable position finding.
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Map-based position finding
^ Global positioning system (GPS) - satellite position finding
Manual input of vehicle location
It is possible to enter the location manually on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) in the "Navigation" menu. This can be useful in the following cases:
^ After transporting the vehicle (e.g. ferry or train)
^ If at the start of a journey GPS reception was not possible
