Radio reception
With model 209.3, the amplifier module 2, window antenna (A2/72) and the amplifier module 3, window antenna (A2/73) receive the frequency-modulated and amplitude-modulated radio frequency signals, filter out the frequencies of the radio frequency bands and amplify them.
With model 209.4, the left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) and right antenna amplifier module (A2/65) receive the frequency-modulated radio frequency signals, filter out the frequencies of the radio frequency bands and amplify them.

With model 209.4, the AM trunk lid antenna (A71/1) receives and filters the amplitude-modulated radio frequency signals. The AM trunk lid antenna amplifier (A2/16) amplifies the signals. The amplified signals are subsequently sent to the radio receiver via a coaxial cable. The radio receiver demodulates the frequency signals, i.e. it separates the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible). The demodulated audio signals are amplified and converted to sound signals by the vehicle speakers.

Radio data system
As well as the normal radio program, many radio stations transmit additional inaudible digital information such as station names, the program type (e.g. pop, culture, etc.) and traffic radio recognition. This information is evaluated by the radio (A2) and shown on the display if the following prerequisites are met:
^ The radio data system function is activated.
^ A radio data system station has been tuned.
